Privacy Policy
Effective Date: September 25, 2025
Make My Book ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy as well as the privacy of children for whom you create personalized books. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected via our website and services, how we use and protect that information, and what rights you have regarding your data. We comply with all applicable privacy laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) makemybook.app . Our platform has no standalone server; it operates on Google Firebase and related cloud services, and our AI features use Google’s “Gemini” API. By using Make My Book, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide: When you register for an account or use our service, we collect personal information you provide, such as your email address (for login and account verification) and a password. To create a personalized book, you may provide information about your child, including their name, age, gender, interests (like favorite colors or hobbies), and any other details you choose to input. You also have the option to upload a photo of your child to personalize the illustrations. If you order a printed book, we collect the delivery information necessary to fulfill the order, such as the recipient’s name, shipping address, and contact phone number. Payments are processed via third-party providers, so we do not receive or store your full credit card details (only confirmation of payment and basic billing info).
Information Collected Automatically: When you use our website or app, we may automatically collect certain technical information for functionality and security purposes. This can include your device type, browser type, IP address, and usage data (such as which pages or features you access). We use cookies or similar technologies to remember your login session and preferences, and to collect analytics data about how users interact with our platform. These cookies are used only to provide and improve our service makemybook.app , and not for advertising purposes. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling cookies that are necessary for login or book creation may affect the functionality of the site.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
Providing the Service: We use your information (and your child’s information) to generate the personalized story and illustrations for your book. For example, our AI will incorporate your child's name and details to create a unique story where your child is the hero. If you upload a child’s photo, we use it to generate personalized illustrations. We store your data in Firebase databases and storage so you can save progress and access your book anytime.
Account Management: We use your email and password to create and manage your account, authenticate you when you log in, and help keep your account secure. We may use your email to send important account or service notices (for example, password reset emails or updates about our service).
Order Fulfillment: If you purchase a PDF download or order a printed book, we use the provided information to process the payment and fulfill your order. For printed books, we use your shipping information to print and deliver the book to you.
Improvement and Development: We may use usage data and aggregate analytics to understand how our platform is used and to improve our services. For instance, we might analyze which story themes are most popular or identify user interface issues makemybook.app . This helps us optimize the user experience and add new features.
Customer Support: If you contact us via our website chat, email, or phone, we will use the information you provide (like your name or details of your issue) to assist you. Our support team is available 24/7 and can assist in all 6 languages we support (including English and other languages such as Hebrew, Spanish, French, German, and Italian) makemybook.app makemybook.app .
Safety and Compliance: We use information as needed to enforce our Terms and Conditions, to monitor and prevent fraudulent or illegal activities (for example, to prevent abuse of any free credits), and to comply with legal obligations. All content generated is automatically checked to ensure it is appropriate for children makemybook.app . If required by law, we may use or disclose information to respond to lawful requests by public authorities (e.g., a court order or subpoena).
We will not use your or your child’s personal information for any purposes incompatible with the above without your consent. In particular, we do not use personal data for third-party marketing, and we do not sell your personal information makemybook.app .
3. Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or UK, our legal bases for processing your personal data include:
Contract Performance: Much of our data processing is to fulfill our contract with you. When you register and create a book, we must process your email, your child’s details, and other data to provide the service (i.e., to generate and deliver the personalized book). This also includes processing payment and shipping data when you make a purchase.
Consent: We rely on your consent to process certain personal information about children. By providing personal information about your child and by uploading a photo, you are consenting (as a parent/guardian) to our processing of that information for the purpose of creating the book makemybook.app . You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting the information (for example, by removing a child’s photo or details via the book editor, or by deleting your account). If you withdraw consent, we will stop processing the relevant data going forward. (Note: Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.)
Legitimate Interests: We may process your data as necessary for our legitimate interests, for example to improve our platform’s functionality, ensure security, prevent fraud, or provide customer support. Whenever we rely on this basis, we ensure our interests are balanced against your rights. For instance, we have a legitimate interest in using minimal cookies to analyze usage and improve our service while respecting your privacy (for example, by not using invasive tracking).
Legal Obligation: We may process and retain personal data where required to comply with legal obligations. For example, we may keep transaction records to meet accounting/tax requirements or consumer protection laws, or to respond to a lawful government request.
4. Disclosure of Your Information
We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We only disclose your information in the following circumstances:
Service Providers: We use reputable third-party service providers to operate our platform and provide our services. These include Google Firebase (which provides our database, authentication, and file storage infrastructure) and Google’s AI services (to generate story text and images via the Gemini AI). These providers act as data processors on our behalf and only process your data as needed to deliver our service makemybook.app . For example, your data is stored on Firebase’s secure servers and processed by Google’s AI to create your book content. Firebase secures data with encryption and does not use your content for other purposes makemybook.app . We also use third-party payment processors (e.g., credit card processors or app store payment systems) to handle payments securely. Such processors receive the necessary billing details to process transactions but are not allowed to use your data for their own purposes. If you order a physical book, we share your shipping name and address with printing and shipping partners or postal/courier services solely to fulfill delivery.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal requests (e.g., a subpoena, court order, or government demand). We will only disclose the data necessary makemybook.app and will inform you of such requests if legally allowed.
Protection of Rights: We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that such action is necessary to protect or defend our rights or property, to investigate fraud, or to protect the safety of our users or others. For example, we might share information in response to a security threat or enforcement of our policies.
Business Transfers: If Make My Book is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity or merged with new datasets. In such an event, we would notify you and ensure your data is afforded the same level of protection. You would also retain your rights and choices (including the ability to delete your data) in any such transfer.
Except for the situations above, information you provide to Make My Book (including child details and photos) is not shared with anyone outside our service makemybook.app . We do not disclose children’s personal information to third parties for any independent use.
5. Data Security
We prioritize data security. We implement industry-standard physical, technical, and administrative security measures to protect your data makemybook.app . For example:
Encryption: All data is transmitted over secure HTTPS connections, and stored data (including photos) is encrypted at rest on Firebase servers makemybook.app .
Access Controls: Personal data is accessible only to authorized personnel who need it for their job (for instance, support staff or system engineers) and who are bound by confidentiality obligations.
Monitoring: We continuously monitor our systems for vulnerabilities and attacks, and we regularly update our security practices in line with technological developments.
Despite our efforts, no internet transmission or electronic storage method is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of information. However, we strive to protect your personal data and have measures in place to promptly address any security incidents. In the unlikely event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as well as the relevant authorities as required by law.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. In general:
Account Information: We keep your account data (like your email and login credentials) as long as your account exists or as long as needed to provide you services. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data from active systems within a reasonable time, except for data we are required to retain for legal obligations or legitimate business purposes. (For instance, we may retain some transaction records to comply with accounting rules makemybook.app , or keep backup copies for a limited period which are then overwritten.)
Book Content: Personal details you provide for book creation (your child’s name, characteristics, and the generated story and images) are retained so you can edit, download, or re-order your personalized book at any time. This allows you “lifetime access” to the content you have created and any purchased book files. We will keep this content until you remove it (e.g. by deleting a book project or your account). You can also delete individual projects within the platform, which will remove the associated child data and images from our systems.
Photos: If you upload a child’s photo, it’s stored securely in our Firebase Storage and encrypted makemybook.app . We retain the photo as long as the related book project exists so that it can be used for generating and re-downloading the book. You can delete the photo from the project at any time via the book editor, which will remove it from our storage. In any case, if you delete your account (or that specific project), the photo is deleted from our active storage.
Transactional Records: We keep records of purchases, payments, and deliveries for as long as necessary for business and legal purposes. For example, we retain payment and order data for accounting and tax obligations (typically, financial records must be kept for a number of years, depending on local laws). We also retain these records in case of customer service issues or chargebacks. Access to this information is limited, and it is secured to the same standard as other personal data.
Communications: If you contact us (e.g., via email or support chat), we may store the correspondence to address your inquiry and for our internal training and quality assurance. We generally do not keep these longer than necessary to assist you, unless required for legal reasons.
When we no longer have a legitimate need to use or retain personal data, we will delete it or anonymize it so it can no longer be associated with you. If deletion is not immediately feasible (e.g., the data is in backups), we will securely store it and isolate it from further use until deletion is possible.
7. Your Rights and Choices
You have certain rights regarding your personal information, subject to local data protection laws. These may include:
Access and Portability: You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you and to obtain it in a portable format (to the extent applicable) makemybook.app . This includes the right to receive information on how your data is used, or to request a digital file of the data you provided to us (for example, the personal details about your child and any content generated, in a commonly used format).
Correction: You have the right to request that we correct or update any inaccurate or incomplete personal information. You can update much of your account information directly via your account settings. For instance, you can edit your child’s details in the book editor before creation, or contact us to update your account email if needed.
Deletion: You have the right to request deletion of your personal data. You can delete your account (and all associated data) at any time via your account settings makemybook.app . You can also delete specific information (like a child’s name or photo) without deleting your entire account, by removing those details from a project or using any available delete functions in the interface. Do note: if you delete your account, all stored books and data will be permanently erased, and you will lose access to any content associated with the account, so be sure to download any purchased content beforehand. Once deletion is processed, we will also instruct our service providers to delete the data from their systems where applicable.
Withdraw Consent: If we are processing any personal data based on your consent, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. For example, if you uploaded a photo and no longer want us to use it, you can delete it from the project or delete your account, which withdraws consent for further use. This will not affect the legality of processing done before your withdrawal. If you withdraw consent for the use of certain child data, we may not be able to continue providing the related features of the service.
Object to Processing: You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data in certain cases, including when we process data based on legitimate interests. For example, you can request that we stop using your data for analytics that support service improvement. If you object, we will evaluate whether our legitimate grounds for processing override your objection, or if we need to cease the processing. Note that essential processing (e.g., data needed to provide the service or comply with law) may continue even if you object.
Restrict Processing: You have the right to request that we limit or restrict the processing of your personal data under certain circumstances. For instance, you may request restriction if you contest the accuracy of your data (until we verify or correct it), or if you believe the processing is unlawful but you prefer data not be deleted. When processing is restricted, we will still store the data but not use it.
Right to Complain: If you have concerns about how we handle your personal data, you have the right to file a complaint with a data protection authority. If you are in the EU, you can contact the supervisory authority in the country of your residence or the Irish Data Protection Commissioner (since our service may involve international processing through our service providers). If you are in the UK, you can contact the ICO. We encourage you to contact us first, so we can address your concerns directly.
To exercise your rights, please contact us using the information in the Contact Us section below. For your privacy and security, we may take steps to verify your identity before fulfilling your request (for example, by asking you to confirm from your registered email or providing information about your account). We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law.
Please Note: These rights may be subject to certain limitations under applicable law. For example, we cannot provide data that includes personal information about other individuals without their consent, and we may retain certain information if needed for legal obligations (such as records of transactions). If we cannot fulfill a request in whole or in part, we will provide an explanation.
8. Children’s Privacy and Parental Controls
Our services are intended to be used by adults (parents or guardians) to create books for children. We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts or provide personal information directly through our site makemybook.app . If you are under 13, please do not attempt to use or register on Make My Book - ask a parent or guardian to assist you.
In compliance with COPPA, we do not collect personal data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent makemybook.app . Our platform and content are child-friendly, but the account holder must be an adult. The personal details about a child (name, age, etc.) should only be provided by a parent or guardian, and are only used to create the personalized book for that parent/guardian. We only collect the information necessary to personalize the book, and we do not condition a child’s participation on disclosing more personal data than is reasonably required.
Parental Rights: As a parent or legal guardian, you have full control over the personal information provided about your child. You can:
Review the personal data we have collected about your child. This includes all details you entered in the book creation process (e.g., name, characteristics, photo). You can see this information by logging into your account and viewing or editing your projects (the details you have entered are visible in the book editor or preview).
Delete your child’s personal data at any time. If you want to remove your child’s information or photo, you can do so by editing the project (remove or change the child’s name, delete the photo, etc.) or by deleting the entire project. If you wish to delete all data, you can also delete your account. Once deleted, the information is removed from our databases and cannot be recovered.
Consent or Refuse: By providing your child’s information, you consent to our use of it as described. If at any time you change your mind, you may withdraw your consent (as described in Section 7) and we will stop using and delete the child’s data. For example, if you want us to stop using your child’s photo, you can simply delete it from the project or ask us to remove it.
If you have any questions or requests regarding your child’s personal information on our platform, please contact us. We strongly encourage parents/guardians to be involved in the creation of the book and to supervise the process to ensure you are comfortable with the content and use of any personal data.
Note for EU Users: We treat data of minors with extra care. Under GDPR, children’s data merits specific protection. If we become aware that a user is under the age required by local law to provide valid consent (which is 16 in some EU countries, or lower where allowed and provided by local law), we will require parental consent or delete the account. By using our service, you confirm that you are either the parent/guardian or have proper authority to provide any child’s personal data to us.
If you believe we have inadvertently collected a child’s personal data without proper consent, please notify us and we will delete that information promptly makemybook.app .
9. International Data Transfers
Make My Book is operated from Germany (EU), but we use cloud infrastructure (Firebase, Google Cloud, etc.) which may store or process data in the United States or other countries. Therefore, your personal data (including child data) may be transferred to and processed in a country outside of your own.
To protect personal data when it is transferred internationally (for instance, from the EU to the U.S.), we have taken appropriate safeguards in accordance with GDPR makemybook.app . Specifically, transfers of personal data are covered by European Commission Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or other approved transfer mechanisms, which contractually ensure a level of data protection equivalent to EU standards. Google (our main service provider for database, storage, and AI) has committed to comply with these requirements and provides strong data security measures makemybook.app .
By using our service, you understand that your information may be processed in countries outside of your country of residence. Regardless of where processing occurs, we apply the same protections described in this Privacy Policy. Our third-party processors (like Google) are contractually bound to protect your data and use it only for the services we integrate with.
If you reside in a jurisdiction with data localization requirements or other specific conditions, please be aware of this international processing dimension. By providing your personal data and using our service, to the extent permitted by law, you consent to any such transfer. We will ensure any transfer of personal data is compliant with applicable legal requirements (for example, under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, if applicable, or using SCCs as noted).
If you would like more information about the specific safeguards we employ for international data transfers or if you have specific concerns, feel free to contact us using the information below.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to information collected on those external sites or by those external services, which have their own privacy policies. We have no control over, and are not responsible for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.
For example, if you choose to pay via Apple App Store, the transaction and data associated with that purchase may be covered by Apple’s privacy policy. If we make material changes, we will provide you with notice (e.g., by posting the updated policy on our website and updating the “Effective Date” at the top, and/or by emailing you if we have your email on file). We encourage you to review this Policy periodically to stay informed about how we are protecting your information. Your continued use of Make My Book after any modifications to this Policy will constitute your acknowledgment of the changes and agreement to abide by the updated Policy.
If you do not agree with any changes to this Privacy Policy, you should stop using our services and may delete your account at any time. We will not make any material changes to the Privacy Policy that retroactively reduce your privacy rights without obtaining your consent.
